Mindset Coaching for Anxious High-Achievers
I have a small coaching practice where I work with motivated individuals who want to overcome their inner obstacles to success and happiness.
Who Is It For?
Mindset coaching with Nick is a good fit if:
You’re a high-performer, high-achiever, or striver. Regardless of how you define success, you’ve always been wired to chase after it. You’re goal-oriented, ambitious, and hard-working, but also thoughtful, curious, and open-minded.
Anxiety is holding you back. You’re high-functioning and successful in most if not all areas of life, but you know there’s a better version of you on the other side of fear and doubt. You want to continue doing great work but with less stress and anxiety.
You want a fresh approach to personal development. You’re looking for something more practical and growth-oriented than therapy, more individualized than courses, and more nuanced than executive coaching.
What Issues Does Mindset Coaching Address?
My coaching work is specifically for anxious high-achievers who feel held back by anxiety-related issues, including:
Self-Doubt & Low Confidence. You know intellectually that you’re talented and not inferior, but you often feel like an imposter and unworthy despite all the evidence to the contrary.
Panic & Performance Anxiety. Most of the time you’re fine, but certain situations like flying or speaking in public trigger waves of panic and intense anxiety
Procrastination & Avoidance. You have personal, professional, or creative goals that you consistently avoid or procrastinate on despite a strong desire to see them through. You sense that your blocks are internal but haven’t been able to work thro
Insomnia & Sleep Anxiety. You have trouble “shutting off” your brain at night and often struggle to fall asleep or wake up and can’t return to sleep.
Limiting Beliefs & Negative Self-Talk. Your inner monologue is harsh, judgmental, and unhelpful. You have core beliefs that you know are untrue, but can’t let them go.
Free-Floating Anxiety & Chronic Worry. It’s hard to put your finger on why but you just seem to worry a lot and your baseline level of stress and anxiety rarely goes all the way down.
Overthinking and Indecisiveness. You often get stuck in your head ruminating, worrying, and “looping,” and you’re often indecisive, especially in “low structure” situations with lots of uncertainty.
People-Pleasing & Conflict Avoidance. You struggle to be assertive—asking for what you want, saying no to what you don’t, and expressing how you really feel—usually because you’re afraid of other people getting upset.
Burnout & Chronic Stress. You’re exhausted, depleted, and increasingly unmotivated—and nothing seems to help. Your life feels increasingly overwhelming and you feel increasingly stuck.
How Is Mindset Coaching with Nick Different from Other Forms of Coaching?
There are four key differences to how I approach coaching:
Assessment-Led. However well-intentioned, most coaching takes a throw spaghetti against the wall and see what sticks approach. I do not. The first session is spent doing a rigorous assessment of what the internal and external factors in your current struggle are, developing a working hypothesis for why you’re stuck, and assembling a set of exercises, tools, and behavioral experiments to test the hypothesis and move forward using data and feedback. I will write-up a brief assessment report and deliver it to you within a week of the first session.
Academic Rigor + Practical Touch. I’m trained as an academic researcher and clinical psychologist which gives me an evidence-based and rigorous expertise as a guide through emotional obstacles to growth and wellbeing. But I’m also a writer, creator, educator, entrepreneur, and a business consultant, all of which I believe give me an accessible and straightforward touch that many traditional therapists or academics lack.
A High-Agency Approach. Despite how they’re billed, most approaches to coaching fail because they become too intellectual and conceptual—which, while interesting, doesn’t facilitate real change. My own approach is based on helping you develop a high-agency mindset so that you can get not just relief from your struggles, but confidently move forward toward what matters most in your life.
Focus. Many approaches to coaching are open-ended and cover a wide range of issues and goals. My own approach emphasizes focus in both the structure and content of our work. I only offer time-limited coaching sprints. Additionally, the content of our work will focus on one primary challenge or goal to avoid getting spread too thin and not making real progress in any direction.
How Does the Coaching Process Work, Exactly?
Application. The first step is to submit a short application with basic information and a description of why you want to do coaching. You will hear back from me within 2-3 business days.
Intro Call. After submitting your application, if I have availability and it seems like a good fit given your application information, we will schedule a 30-minute assessment call to chat and ensure that we’re both on the same page in terms of goals, expectations, and logistics.
Payment. If we agree to move forward, I’ll send you a link to pay for the coaching package.
Coaching Calls. We will meet every 2-3 weeks over Zoom for a total of six one-hour coaching calls.
Option to Extend. If at the end of our work you would like to continue coaching with me, we can discuss options assuming I have availability and believe I can continue to be of help.
How Much Does Coaching Cost?
The total investment for a three-month coaching package is $5,500, this includes six one-hour coaching calls with email/messaging access in between. Coaching is a significant investment of time, energy, and money. It’s not for everyone, and you should not apply if it would be a financial strain or burden.
If you cannot afford coaching, I run an emotional skills training platform called The Friendly Mind School. I also have hundreds of free essays and guides on my website which you can study and use.
I’m Interested. How Do I Get Started?
If you’re interested, please fill out this brief application →
I’ll be in touch within 2-3 business days to let you know if I have availability.
If I do have availability, and it seems like a good fit given your application, we’ll set up a brief 30-minute call to discuss details and confirm that both of us wish to continue.
If I don’t have availability, I can add you to a waitlist and let you know as soon as my availability opens up.
Common Questions
Is Coaching Like Therapy? Coaching is not therapy. It is not meant to diagnose or treat any medical or mental health condition. If you have an active psychiatric condition that significantly impairs your functioning, coaching is not appropriate. Here’s one way to think about the difference: Coaching is about growth and achieving your full potential; it’s about going from good to great. Therapy is about remediating psychopathology or clinical disorders; it’s about going from illness to health.
What Is Mindset Coaching Specifically? Because there are many types of coaching—executive, health, life, spiritual, etc.—I use the term mindset coaching to refer specifically to the type of coaching whose approach focuses on identifying and overcoming the emotional and psychological obstacles to performance, wellbeing, and growth.
Why is your coaching for anxious high-achievers specifically? My deepest expertise is in the psychological dynamics that govern fear and anxiety. The individuals I enjoy working with the most and get the most energy from are ambitious, motivated, curious, and hard-working. So when I think about where my talents and passion overlap—where I can do the most good in the world and have the most satisfaction doing it—it’s supporting this very specific type of individual, the anxious high-achiever, to become the best version of themselves.
Why do you limit your coaching package to 6 sessions? I design my coaching package around a time-limited format to encourage focus and a healthy sense of urgency. However, additional or supplemental packages are a possibility if both you and I think it will be helpful.
What if I want to reach you outside of our 60-minute coaching sessions? I am able to briefly answer questions, clarify issues, and—hopefully—celebrate successes over email or WhatsApp between our live calls.
Do you have a refund policy? I do not.
What is your cancellation and reschedule policy? During the initial call, we will agree to a consistent weekly day and time for our coaching sessions. If you need to reschedule, I will make every attempt to do so, but cannot guarantee it given my full schedule. If you need to cancel or reschedule, I very much appreciate as much advance notice as possible—this also increases the likelihood of finding a reschedule time.
Will you coach my child? I don’t do coaching with anyone under 18 years of age. If you have an adult child whom you think could benefit from coaching with me, they need to initiate and coordinate coaching on their own.
